A highlight of the Christmas Village & Tree Lighting is the annual Storefront Decorating Contest, which encourages downtown businesses to decorate their windows to create a Christmas holiday decoration destination for for downtown Clayton. Downtown Clayton has a highly decorated downtown, but the anonymous judges could only select three:
Best Overall: Signage of the Carolinas, 218 W Main Street

Some businesses did not decorate and are subject to receiving "The Grinch Award" and this year's recipient was Hair on Main, 401 E Main Street.
